Crib a lil more....

Alright now, I'm here to crib a lil more.
Ok, so there I was working from 3-11 last week, and the main task at hand was to go through about 2200 documents. I had to verify them. One of my colleagues was also helping me out at that. So that's the two of us, working our ass off. The week goes by, haven't progressed much, just about 500 done. Honestly, its such a bugging task, we weren't really enjoying it. Anywyz, so there we were quite happy that we will get some more through on regular work hours this week and then came the blow on Monday. We both had to turn up again this week and work from 3-11. Isn't that amazing??
Here's the icing on the cake. I'm leaving early tomorrow on a weekend trip. So there I am stuck with loads of those irksome docs and have to get through with my list by EOD today. Dunno, how I wil manage it, but was just wondering why can't those buggers do it for themselves, maybe then they would realise why we are hating that task!!!
Who said software engineers had it easy in life, but must have been super ignorant!!! hmpf!!!

Early to work!!

"Perfect formal attire!!", that's what a youngster thought while checking himself out in the elevator. He was on his way to work. He steps out, walks through the open glass door and then enters he secured area of his work. The same white tiles, light, wall. A yellow and blue board separating the employees and thus creating open cubicles. There is an openness about the atmosphere and yet there was something about it which doesn't lift the spirit!! It wasn't like this in the old one now!! Anyways, some things have got to be dealt with. It was then something struck him. The entire office was nearly empty save for a few souls who could be seen scattered here and there. Did he turn up on a Saturday or Sunday by mistake?? Usually when he comes in the office is abuzz with activity. What's wrong then today?? He checks his watch for the date. Yup!! It was Monday. Then what? It was then that he notices the time. It was 9:00 a.m.!! Turning up at work so early was not a requirement for him before today. You see till date he had to come in at 2:00 and then leave after 10:00. That had changed his lifestyle a great deal. And now he has to turn up this early, for a week.

As the import of such an activity in the long run sunk in, he couldn't help but grumble. Turning up at different times of the day on a regular rotation basis would affect him a lot. He knew it. His sleep would be the one which be most affected. But what should he do now get rid of such a work time?? Absolutely disgusted he begins another mundane day at work!!

Any suggestions??

Trapped...... sheesh!!

Before you even start thinking what this would eb about let me warn you before hand, it would be about... tchah!! forget it... read it and find it our yourself!!

Here goes.... I few weeks back, it turns out that to improve connectivity to certain vendor sites specific to our project account, the network guys decided to switch off the net connection. Fine.. fair enuf. Situation never really improved after that. Ergo, please do restore the net connection. may be they don't have a life on the net, but they are folks like me who do... Blogging.. read or write is similar to oxygen for me. The only time I can do without it is on weekends, that is more due tha fact that I cannot access net during those days, else trust me you'd have seen more posts from me. So there I was nestled in my chair and wondering when would I get something constructive to do. I mean, how long do you expect to be sitting idle doing nothing when your mind is racing with god knows how many ideas!!

This surely was the last straw. I mean, like they had blocked quite a few websites, and now this?? What do they want?? That people to stark mad, after 8 hours of coding everyday??? I feel so trapped. Totally!!!!

A Little Liberty

All right now I wouldn't advise people out there to do anything like this, so please take care. And frankly I had a genuine reason for whatever I did. Now in case you are wondering what did I do, well this was last Friday. I turned up late at work... nearly two hours. Wanna know why?? here it goes.........

Well, since the Monday before last my roomate, Neal is suffering from swelling in both of his eyelids. So, after much procastination and pleading he decided that he should visit the doc. So, off I went with him to Jehangir Hospital near Pune Station, for a check up. Having visited opthalmologists for the past 15 yrs or more, I could make a guess about his problem, but then I am a techie right not a doctor!! So there we were at around 11 in the morning (please note the time!!) in the lobby of the OPD of Jehangir and enquiring for the doctor. The registration and visitation fees together would cost 400.00 INR only. Neal, started moving towards the cash counter or so I thought. Now the cash counter is right on the way to the OPD from the entrance so you can imagine why I mistook his movements to be so honourable. To my surprise (naturally, we were there for a check up, right??) he walked straight out and moved towards his bike. I caught up with him. Knowing him I should have expected this. So there we were standing in the parking lot wondering where to go so that he can get his eye checked. Off we went to an eye specialist near BJ Medical Grounds a 10 min bike ride from Jehangir. The check was done for free. For the doc had to do nothing just take a look and asked him to consult a GP as it was a skin infection..... ***** I rolled my eyes, my faith in the doctor shaken completely *****

Quite pleased with things, and especially when he got the same service for free instead of paying 400 bucks, Neal was in a mood to celebrate. It was a little past 11:30... not that I did mind, still 2 hrs to work. When thanks to a severe nature's call Neal had to park his bike at the Pyramid Mall near MG Rd. (now he scouted the area for a parking spot but didn't find any... finally had to park his bike at the mall basement!! wot a ....) I utilised the entire time scouting around the mall for some nice gift for a friend whom I'd be meeting in some time. Did find the right gift... but not the perfect one!! So, I dropped it... meanwhile Neal had joined me on the hunt too... and ended up choosing a stuffed turtle for himself!! lol.... It was 1:00 pm... Surprised??? Wait there's more!!

Oh!! I forgot, before hitting Pyramid we had gone to Fashion Street where Neal picked up a pair of goggles to convert them into glasses.... sucha fashion and price conscious guy!! :) So, now that we were through with Pyramid, off we went to check for the glasses. Some stores disappointed us, some told us it woudl all be done. It was during this sojourn that we went to GKB Opticals on MG Road. They took a look a Neal, and asked him to consult an eye specialist and get medications.... for according to them it was serious condition for him... anymore and it would result in surgery!! Poor guy.... back on doc hunt again!! And a lil bit of roaming about on the streets of MG Road. Both were late for work.... but who cared!! lol.....

Finally, after all the roaming about, feasting our eyes on a Yamaha and Suzuki Sports bike (I forgot the make!! but trust me the Yamaha one was a beauty!!!!!! MT01 is my bet... here's a pic which I got hold of!!)

We were in our office by 3:30 pm.... a full two hours late... and not word against us!! It felt good to spend a day just as if we were college kids..... but reality always kicks in else we'd have stayed on at MG!!! Sheesh!!!

P.S. : Neal finally had a full check up on Sunday is on medication and very much fine now!!

15 hrs and still going on!!

Alright then it's 2:50 A.M. 4th July. And I've been at my desk since noon. 15 hours and going strong. Turned up at work today. And I didn't have a thing to do..... So there I was happily chatting and blogging away to glory. In between had a long chat with Ishi about the admin show on Between Us Friends, a wonderful place where I blog along with dozens of other members. The funda there is that all bloggers would be friends. Simple. Anywyz, I had a nice chat with Ishi on this. Finally, the chat came to an end for I had other pressing matters to attend.... a fitness session right here at our office. That would mean 2 hours away from my desk. What the heck!! I had permission for that.

The session included workout and dance stuff. Ah!! It's so invigorating. Anywyz, I went about the entire session with so much vigour I was asked to ease up... lol.... And so like all good things that did come to an end. :( As I got cosy in my chair, I was wondering what can I do now... Isha calls up (such an Angel... simply knows when to buzz me!!). Now the hunterwali was in a cheerful mood, and we started chatting away to glory. And as usual, it started with one but ended with an entirely different topic. Two chatterboxes.... lol. After my chat with her.. I was back at my desk. Half an hour to go before I call it a day. And there lay the devil in my mailbox.

A single mail from client stating that there was an urgent production issue to be tackled. The lack of response to that mail should have warned me off.... but me being me.. always the play by the rules Jack, decided to respond, after all it was reported as major. And since then I have been dealing with stupid requests, questions which irritate me... and I can't close the issue. And they want answers, as if should they know the reason, they would solve it on their own next time. Like hell they would do that!! They'd raise it again and bug me to no end!! Why are these fellows such #^%#$%#$%#$%. Oh by the way, once they found that the issue seemed to have been resolved, they stopped mailing me.. and here I am waiting for that!!

Right now, I'm drowsy, tired, angry, impatient and very hungry. So this post may not seem like my usual style..... but then it's good to know a dark and less humorous side of Sam.

Ah!! It's Weekend.........

It's been a real tough time at work. What with the appraisals going on and loads of work deadlines... sometimes i felt like dropping dead.... but then had to hang on.. and had someone to pep me up everyday!! So, the last two weeks been pretty much draining..... I mean, there I was down with flu.... the entire works you know.... had to skip my workout sessions... was so damn weak.. but still had to finish my task..... ah!! such a heartless client..... But then the perils of being the software industry.... you better sell you soul to the devil.. for then and only then would you get the energy to keep going on and on against the stupid clients to get their requirements and then being successful in putting it up on code..... Arrghhhhhhh!!!

So there I was battling it out..... lone ranger at that.... but then I persisted.... and finally the weekend arrived. Was in a mood to rest completely.. bed rest u know.... and then came to know about this guitar contest going on at Pune Central.. a nearby mall..... So there I was, along with 4 more friends... braving the rain, speeding down towards music....... we got there alright.... and got to hear some good music... the next day.... all plans were put to rest with a prolonged power cut and then an evening of salsa..... and Whoosh!! the weekend was gone!!

(Check this one out for the Salsa evening: Shall we dance)

A new week..... the same old routine... the silver lining was meeting up with a blogger friend Mann.... it was great.... and the down part was a personal crisis, which thankfully I was able to deal with fast enough..... A sleepy Sam was so much into goof ups.... Messed up two deadlines... now my project manager is an angel.. and let me off the hook...... and then showing some amazing speed... i made sure that the stuff which I had been banging my head over for the past few days got completed in a matter of hours... leaving me with plenty of hours to kill... and to which no one could object!!

Efficiency?? May be.... All that I care for now is a long weekend sleep!!

So Cheerio people.. see you next week!!

Introducing ~~ Sam's thoughts on work!!

Now those of you who know me for quite sometime now do know that I work in the IT industry. With this blog I wish to take into that world as seen through my eyes. Ummmm....... one might say that this is just another blogger trying to fill up some space... but then, that's not what I do.

So a little background information. My employers happen to be among the top 20 IT companies in India.I work at odd hours, thanks to no onsite support for us, so we end up chatting away with client just to get hold his problem. And literally end up slogging out a good many days. So where do we stand after that?? Nowhere in particular for I haven't yet started. So wait up as I update regularly on what I believe is the IT industry!! Cheerio.....
